Films and TV shows that I’ve seen

Me And You And Everyone We Know

This film was weird. And yet, I loved it. I’m not quite sure what it was about this quirky, oddball film that quite so caught my attention, but I think it’s a film that you should definitely see, if only to say that you’d tried it.

After having tried about 3 times to describe the story of the film and started over, I have decided that it’s best left unexplained. There are several main characters whose paths cross and intertwine throughout the film in a way which seems at first somewhat arbitrary, but yet at the same time well-thought out and clever. In the end, each character finds love in a way that Love, Actually wanted to, but completely failed at doing.

IMDb describes the plot as being about “a lonely shoe salesman and an eccentric performance artist struggle to connect in this unique take on contemporary life,” but this does not even come close to outlining the film. See it for yourself.

The direction and writing of the film is perfect at capturing the emotions of the characters, and their feelings for one another, in a way that I can’t even begin to describe.

I hope that Miranda July’s works following this debut will live up to the standard set here, and I certainly hope to find out if that’s the case.

Christmas came, Christmas saw, Christmas conquered

So cute!So finally, I have updated my Wordpress properly to version 2.0, which was released a couple of nights ago. I’m rather pleased with the new look of the admin panel and the general feel of it. From what I’ve been reading, a huge amount of work has been done to the core to make it a lot faster and more moddable with regard to plugins.

At present I’m just chilling out playing Gran Turismo 3 - all I have left to do are some endurance races and that sodding Yaris/Vitz Professional cup. Christmas was good to me this year - my parents got me a new Sony walkman which will be my pride and joy so long as I can get the sodding software to survive long enough on my computer to transfer some tracks across. Caley got me a Reel Big Fish ticket for the Civic on the 25th, which should be an awesome gig indeed - anybody else coming? I feel a bit cheap now that I only got her the Willy Wonka soundtrack CD, but then again, she does still have my i pwn n00bs shirt, so it makes up for it I suppose!

Tomorrow I’m gonna take her to see The Producers, which despite being slated by critics should be a good film, as the original idea was absolutely superb, and the original film hilarious throughout - I don’t suppose it’ll be that easy to disappoint me anyway. But, before that, my mother (of brilliant timing) decided that I need some new school shoes, so no doubt I shall be dragged around town trying on hundreds of different pairs of exactly the same black shoes, except there shall be something wrong with every single one. Caley, if I’m late tomorrow honey, blame my mother. I apologise in advance.

Kudos to the WordPress crew, and merry Christmas to the rest of ya! I hope you all got what you wanted.

…The Geese Are Getting Fat

Christmas is a-comin'...Well, school is over for another 2 weeks, as of this Tuesday, and to be frank, I really didn’t find the end of term as exciting as usual. It’s probably got something to do with the fact that I’m almost constantly tired thanks to a combination of A’-levels, holding up a job, and seeing Caley as well. The worst thing is that I tend to peak during the late evening, so I end up not going to bed until after midnight most nights. This is a pretty bad idea, considering how tired I am the next day, and am confined to one lie-in a week.

Today and yesterday I went into work to earn some money for doing not a lot. Yesterday saw a total of about 15 customers come into the shop, and only to buy things such as lightbulbs and SCART cables. This means we’re hardly making any money at all, especially compared to last year as my boss would have me believe. Today, the shop was comparable to the Mary Celeste (not the fit one from Girls Aloud as my boss would have me believe). To quote the man himself:

“I wouldn’t mind playing hide the sausage with all of them.”

In fact, the shop was so empty today that we ended up completely re-organising the stock in the white goods department (dishwashers, washing machines, fridges and so forth) - the only people who came in were those coming to collect stuff that we’d fixed previously, and then me and Paul watched The 12 Babes of Christmas on VH1, which was pretty entertaining. All in all, I think the most productive thing I did was draw a christmas pudding on the service whiteboard, and buy a pie from next door. At least they were doing some business, I had to wait a good 5 minutes for that pie, which turned out to be absolutely fantastic.

So, at the moment my life is a big bore. And, I’ll be going into work tomorrow. And Saturday, which is Christmas Eve! Still, by 4pm on Saturday I will have at least £160 in my wallet, so it can’t be a bad thing. Tomorrow I can look forward to such joys as vacuuming, dusting, and copying a wedding video onto DVD for some desperate bloke whose DVD recorder is fucked.

At least I get to see Caley tomorrow and get my present! However, apparently we may be going out to dinner with her mum and mum’s Niel, so I’m a bit nervous about that. I guess I’ll have to turn on the old charm which I don’t have, and smarten up my appearance which today got me mistaken for a chick (I shoulda hit that guy).
